SW Houston residents seek balance between trees, prairie in Willow Waterhole

Residents in a southwest Houston neighborhood are upset over what the Harris County Flood Control District calls a “mandate” to cut trees on property it owns in Willow Waterhole, a series of storm water detention basins being built as part of an ongoing flood control project on Brays Bayou.

The group has organized as Friends of Trees in Compartment 3 to persuade the district to scale back on tree removal behind their homes in Post Oak Manor. Residents say the trees are home to wildlife and help buffer train noise coming from the railroad tracks to the south.
