Hours and Regulations

Willow Waterhole Greenway is a Houston City Park and as such is guided by the laws of Texas, Houston, and the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department. We encourage visitors to enjoy the amenities while respecting the environment and wildlife and the rights of other visitors. Please leave the area in the same condition that you found it and follow the rules, regulations, and safety guidelines below.

Park Hours

The Greenway is open from dawn to dusk.

Houston City Park Regulations

  • Park hours are from dawn to dusk.

  • Glass containers are prohibited.

  • Alcoholic beverage consumption is prohibited (unless otherwise indicated).

  • Littering is prohibited. Use trash receptacles.

  • Scooters and skateboards are prohibited.

  • Motorized vehicles are prohibited off roadways and beyond parking areas.

  • Improperly parked vehicles will be towed.

  • Two-hour parking for patrons only.

  • Vending and sales are prohibited without permit.

  • Hunting and use of firearms are prohibited.

  • Dogs are to remain on leash at all times.

  • Pet owners are required to pick up after pets (Ordinance 2003-1275, Sec. 6-24).

  • Plants and animals are protected. Do not remove or molest.

  • Control noise levels. Please be respectful of others.

  • Destroying public property is prohibited by law (Title 19, Chapter 191 of the Government Code of Texas).

  • No smoking is allowed in any City of Houston park interior and exterior spaces/facilities.

Fishing Regulations

  • Fishing license required for persons 17 and older.

    The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has details on fishing in Texas, including regulations and licenses—how much they cost and where to buy them.

  • Fishing not allowed in areas marked as Stormwater Treatment Wetlands.

  • Fishing allowed off bridges, piers, culverts, and any shore area designated for fishing.

  • Pole fishing only. Use of nets, traps, unattended lines, spears, and trawling not allowed.

  • Abide by Leave No Trace outdoor principles.

  • Minimum size and bag limits:

    • Bass – release under 14 inches, daily bag limit = 5

    • Catfish – release under 12 inches, daily bag limit = 25

    • Sunfish – no minimum length or daily bag limit

    • Do not release any size carp or non-native fish back into the water.
