Naturescape Garden

The newest addition to the Willow Waterhole Greenway is the Naturescape Garden of tree carvings. In 2020, the Conservancy commissioned renowned tree carver, James D. Phillips, to turn live oak logs into birds, fish, turtles, wildflowers, and people. Phillips is known for his work carving trees in Galveston after the destruction by Hurricane Ike in 2008. In addition to the new carvings, a previous work, Buster the Dog, was rescued from a City warehouse and added to the garden. Buster was on display for 10 years at Market Square Park in downtown Houston until a redo of that site in 2020. Each piece is anchored by a permeable foundation constructed by a local Eagle Scout. The large, heavy logs were donated by a local organization. The garden is located near the Dryad St. entrance.
