City Parks Alliance Study Tour
Willow Waterhole was honored to be one of six featured parks in the 2025 City Parks Alliance Study Tour. The tours are two-and-a-half-day events developed in partnership with the host city. They are designed to highlight the people, places, and partnerships that make each park system special and contribute to vibrant, healthy, and equitable communities.
The first stop on the tour was the Schwartz Gazebo, where Carolyn White, Resilience Manager with the Harris County Flood Control District, explained the development and mechanics of how the Waterhole contributes to flood mitigation. Visitors were struck by the beautiful open vistas and elevation changes around Westbury Lake. The tour then proceeded to the Rafferty Classroom beneath the magnificent oak, followed by a walking tour through the arboretum trail to the Kennedy Scout Pavilion, and finally to view the weir flood control structure on Scout Lake.
It was an honor to share how our community partnerships and commitment to resilience continue to shape Willow Waterhole. Thank you to the City Parks Alliance and everyone who helps make our park a model for nature, flood control, and community connection.
Fishing Clinic
On December 6th, we welcomed 27 participants to our very first fishing clinic. Sixteen children and 11 parents were present and eager to learn and spend time outside together. The weather couldn’t have been better, and the excitement along the shoreline was contagious.
Both children and parents picked up new skills, asked great questions, and had plenty of time to practice their casts. Everyone had the chance to get a line in the water and enjoy a morning of learning, patience, and outdoor fun.
A huge thank you to Harris County 4-H and everyone who joined us and helped make this event such a success! Follow us on your favorite social media channels to sign up for our next event.
Buddhist Monks Visit Willow Waterhole Greenway
Buddhist monks on a 2,000-mile “Walk for Peace” passed through our Houston neighborhood and Willow Waterhole Greenway. They are walking from Texas to Washington, DC, “to raise awareness of peace, love, kindness, and compassion for everybody; to promote unity, harmony, and hope that our country will heal,” said Venerable Bhikkhu Pannakara, the monk leading the journey, according to Houston Public Media.
